Queen sell music catalog for a historic $1.2-billion

The rock legends have made a pretty penny from the deal.

Queen has become the latest band to sell its music catalog. 

According to Rolling Stone, the rock legends sold their catalog for a whopping £1-billion, approximately $1.2-billion.

The catalog was bought by Sony Music.

However, the deal doesn’t feature monies connected to live performances.

According to Forbes, the 'acquisition appears to be the largest purchase for a single artist’s catalog in history'.

The British rock band was formed in 1971 and is still active. 

It has released countless top-charting songs, including 'We Will Rock You' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. 

Their 14th album, 'A Kind Of Magic', released in 1986, is one of their most successful projects.

Artists who have sold their music catalogs

In the past five years, several artists have sold their catalogs. 

In 2021, Bruce Springsteen sold his music catalog for $500-million to Sony Music. 

Shakira also sold her music catalog which consisted of 145 songs. Read more about it here

In 2022, Justin Timberlake sold his catalog for a whopping $100-million (over R1.5-billion) to Hipgnosis. 

Justin Bieber sold his catalog for $200-million in 2023. 

This year, Sony acquired half of the Michael Jackson's publishing and recorded masters catalog and paid a whopping $600-million.
