SAMAs 2023: Bernice West wins Beste Pop for 'Jona'

The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) took place over the weekend, with artists such as Bernice West, AKA, Jan Blohm, and Ryno Velvet receiving top honours.
The biggest artists in South Africa were honoured this past weekend at the South African Music Awards.
The awards ceremony was attended by some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry.
They took place on Saturday evening at the SunBet Arena at Time Square, Menlyn Maine.
Bernice West walked away with the 'Beste Pop' award for her 2022 album, 'Jona', while the 'Beste Kontemporere Musiek Album' award went to Jan Blohm and Ryno Velvet for the album, 'Toe Roep Ek Jou Naam'.

The biggest winner at the SAMAs was DJ Kabza De Small.
He walked away with four awards - 'Best Duo/Group of The Year' alongside DJ Maphorisa, 'Best Produced Album', 'Best Amapiano Album', and 'Best Kwaito Album'.
The second biggest winner was 'Makabongwe' hitmaker, Ntokozo Mbambo. The Gospel star walked away with the 'Female Artist of The Year', 'Album of the Year', and 'Best Contemporary Faith Album' awards. Following her win, Kelly Khumalo, who was nominated alongside her accused, the awards of being unfair.
“You guys know the truth. Numbers never lie. Call me Emaweni. Arranged winnings FUSEG!… I’m not scared of all of you FUSEG! FUSEG NONKE,” she wrote after not winning any award, despite being nominated for 'Best Afropop Album' and 'Female Artist of the Year'.
AKA walked away with 'Male Artist of The Year', 'Best Collaboration' for ‘Lemons (Lemonade)’ featuring Nasty C, and his album, 'Mass Country', won the 'Best Engineered Album'.
