'Lose You to Love Me' was released in 2020. It comes from the album 'Rare'.
In an interview with RADIO.COM, Selena spoke about how personal the song is to her.
“I would say a powerful lyric that was crazy when we were in the studio was probably, ‘you sang off-key on my chorus, when it wasn’t yours.'
“I think that metaphor applies to so many different things, especially when you are a woman, and you’re trying to figure out things that are happening and it can be frustrating and you could be torn down. My self-esteem was completely ripped from me, and I think that everyone can understand that. So that was a very powerful line for sure,” she said.
In another interview with Billboard, she said: “When I wrote the song ‘Lose You to Love Me,’ I was kind of a mess.
“It was really difficult for me. And by the time we shot the music video at the end of the year, it had a completely different meaning, and it was so freeing. It was actually fun for me – I think, because I let it go, it actually meant that I let it go within myself as well. And I couldn’t have asked for a better way to close a chapter in my life.”
The song marked Gomez’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
