Today sees the release of a brand new music video by renowned Potchefstroom rock powerhouse, STRAATLIGKINDERS, for their latest single, SKETSE.
SKETSE was written in 2012 by Bouwer Bosch over the course of two days when the band decided to start recording and touring again. The song is notably different from any of the other songs on their newest album, KONINGS MET VERSKONINGS. Its the first time they have recorded a ballad and they see it as an anthem which shows off the direction the band is moving towards with their songwriting.
“The story of the song is about how we sometimes paint what we want to see in our hearts. Its about the artist or painter’s relationship with his creation. We are all painted and sketched in a different way and we all make up one big amazing art piece at the end of the day.”
The video was directed by Bouwer himself who worked with Werner Botha from Plastiek who assisted him as director of photography for the video. The video was shot in two days in Sunnyside and Hatfield in Pretoria on the roof of a friend of the band’s apartment building.
The video features the story of a traveler who wants to go back home to where he came from. It is filled with interesting shots that will make the viewer wonder what the traveler’s plan is to get back home, whilst awakening memories of nostalgic reminiscence about life.
“We have all been at a place where we didn’t necessarily want to be and and where we have just tried to get away from it.”
It is the first time STRAATLIGKINDERS have ever done a video without performing in it and they are extremely excited to present it to their audience and fans. All their previous videos have contained a performance element by the band paired with a small story line, but this time they deliberately chose not to be in the video.
“We shot a pretty story for a pretty song which will captivate the heart of the viewer.”
