Which international band or artist would you like to open for?

Well, I don’t know who I “should” open for… but I’d like to open up for John Mayer, or Ed Sheeran. Or Taylor Swift, she can write a song about how I looked at her all lustful like.

 

How important is it to floss?

We’re talking teeth, right? I think it’s overrated. Just brush and rinse with mouthwash. I’ve no cavities. 

 

The thing about SA fans you love the most?

Their genuine enthusiasm when meeting me. They’re in it for the music, nothing else. I couldn’t ask for more!

 

Your favourite song of yours?

At the moment it’s Suzy – a stripped down, guitar and vocals track on the album that I recorded live. I love the simplicity, the honesty. 

 

Weirdest memory of school ever?

Eating stolen cupcakes from the tuck shop. I wasn’t the kid who stole them, but I did eat them. I had sleepless nights over those tainted cakes… still do. Thanks a lot.

 

Any advice for Miley Cyrus?

Come and play a show here in South Africa! I want to see twerking in real life. I think there’s beauty in it… somewhere deep, deep down.

Dear Marie by John Mayer.

 

Any rituals before going on stage?

I always write my setlist on my left hand. It started off at a gig in LA where I didn’t have any paper, so I decided to pen the list of songs on my hand. Now it feels awkward if I don’t do it. Go figure.

 

 

If you were a superhero, what would your name and superpower be?

Lactose No-Tolerator. I’d have the ability to make cheese on toast with just a microwave and a toaster.

 

Any guilty pleasures?

Single Malt Scotch and Liverpool Football Club

 

Who should play you in the story of your life?

Robert Downey Jr. Because I am Iron Man. Also, if he can play an African-American soldier in Vietnam, he can play a white boy from Durban.

 

Most famous person on your phone list?

John Mayer. No, seriously.

Ross Jack. He likes Single Malt Scotch as well.
