Elections 2016 kick off around SA
Voting stations opened on Wednesday morning across South Africa for the 2016 municipal elections.
In Gauteng, premier David Makhura got in line to cast his vote.
The voting line moved at a snail's pace in Noordwyk in Midrand.
The morning started with a few residents, police vehicles and a freezing cold wind.
In Tlokwe a small group of residents lined up outside the voting station in ward 9 but the queue is steadily growing.
Tlokwe is also the municipality where your vote won't count if your residential address is not verified, according to a Constitutional Court ruling earlier this year.
The voters in Ward 9 told Jacaranda FM News that they re-registered with their addresses and now just want to make their mark, and get out of the icy wind.
DA leader, Mmusi Maimane cast his ballot in Roodepoort in Johannesburg early on Wednesday morning.
Our reporter, Samkelo Maseko spoke to a few voters in Garsfontein in Pretoria where ANC mayoral candidate, Thoko Didiza is expected to cast her vote later today. Her husband, Thami Didiza already cast his vote early this morning.
This voter says it is the first time that she made her cross next to the party she believes will take South Africa forward.
Meanwhile it is still calm at the national results operations centre.
The DA's mayoral candidate for the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba is voting in Sandton at 11:00 this morning.
In the troubled area of Vuwani, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Des van Rooyen urged South Africans to vote on this historic day.
EFF leader, Julius Malema cast his ballot in his hometown, Seshego in Limpopo.
