Ad hoc committee announces Public Protector nominees

The committee briefed the media on Tuesday on the names and the process going forward. 

The committee's chairperson, Makhosi Khoza, said Graca Machel, Nhlanhla Nene and Gerrie Nel were among those who were nominated, but declined.

Khoza said there has been no political pressure to choose certain candidates.

"Obviously I am a member of the ANC and I don't want to say to you I am not communicating with members of the ANC, otherwise, where do I operate from? In as far as this specific process is concerned, I can tell you that Luthuli House has not contacted me or directed me to speak to anybody," she said.

Thuli Madonsela's term ends in about four months' time.
