Updated | By Suné du Toit
Chaos has erupted in Northam in Limpopo after members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) clashed on the Northam/Thabazimbi road near the Railway Gate.
Vehicles were set alight on Monday morning. One person has died after being stabbed with an assegai. He was reportedly an Amcu member.
This comes after 45 year-old Mthetheleli Zefunele was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon.
According to the police's Ronél Otto, Zefunele was a Northam Platinum Mine employee.
"Zefunele was shot in the head by an unknown suspect who fled on foot. The deceased was a member of NUM," Otto said.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
