DA calls on Zuma to pay Nkandla tax

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says President Jacob Zuma owed the South African Revenue Service (SARS) R63,9 million in tax for the upgrades to his private homestead in Nkandla.

The president has already been ordered to pay R7,8 million to the government for the non-security upgrades to Nkandla.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane says Zuma is liable for the tax on the benefits he has received.

Maimane also hit out at SARS Commissioner, Tom Moyane, who he says has an obligation to collect all taxes that are due without fear or favour.

"Tom Moyane must therefore do his job, rather than using state machinery and resources to fight factional battles in the ANC," Maimane said.

"We will therefore be writing to the SARS Commissioner in order to determine whether SARS have conducted a forensic audit to determine the tax liability of President Zuma, in relation to the public funds spent on upgrades at his private homestead in Nkandla and whether they have received any monies from the President in this regard."
