Five children found dead in a freezer
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Police in the Northern Cape have opened an inquest after five children suffocated in old freezer on Tuesday evening.

The five children, who were five cousins aged between three and seven, were found dead in the fridge by their grandmother in their yard in Kakamas.
According to police spokesperson Major Dimakatso Mooi it is believed the freezer locked accidentally while the children were playing in it.
Mooi said the police appealed to parents or children’s caretakers to take responsibility in ensuring their children’s safety at all times.
"Children should not be left unattended and the yards must be cleared of old equipment not used and scraps that can cause harm to the children," he said.
Police investigation continues.
