Flash floods wreak havoc in Durban
Updated | By Lucky Khanyile
The Road Traffic Inspectorate said officers were out in their numbers in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday evening with heavy rain that continued overnight.
The RTI's Zinhle Mngomezulu said officers kept a close eye on flooding on the N2 Southbound in the vicinity of Gateway.
"There were road closures from yesterday whereby we saw the roads being closed to traffic due to snow. However, we closed the road today for the cleanup and to remove the snow on the roadway. That's why we have all the roads opened to traffic," she said.
Mngomezulu was urging motorists to be extra cautious as many roads were flooded in and around the city.
"Road safety is a shared responsibility and [motorists] should work with us in order to keep our roads safe. We urge motorists to exercise caution. Things like switching the lights on and keeping a safe following distance is advised," she said.
