Madonsela hands over state capture report to Mbete for safe keeping

Outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says her report on state capture is a final report.
Madonsela briefed the media this afternoon, on her final batch of reporters before she hands over the baton to her successor Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
Madonsela says her office voluntarily decided not to release the report following the interdict application by President Zuma and Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen.
She says she has handed over the state capture report for safe keeping to National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete.
Madonsela says she needed to prioritize the report due to public interest and to try and clear the cloud over the heads of some politicians.
She also says they decided not to release it, because it is good practice not to when someone has applied for an interdict.
"We voluntarily entered into an agreement not to release the report, because of the challenge of the interdict. Yes, we did get jurisprudence that shows that we may, if the interdict has not been granted, nothing stops you from releasing the report. But just because we deal with underhanded people, it does not mean we too should be underhanded," she said.
