Meyerton protestors clash with police

Protestors clashed with police in Meyerton on Thursday afternoon.
The R59 highway into Meyerton has been blockaded.
Burning tyres, rocks and portable toilets have been placed on the road.
Meyerton residents coming have from work have been denied access to the area.
Police and journalists have been pelted with rocks and bottles.
A resident was also injured.
Officers fired rubber bullets and stun grenades in a bid to disperse protestors.
The reason for the protest is unclear at this stage.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
Traffic officials are on scene to divert traffic.
Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa said: "The R59 opposite the Sicelo informal settlement is still blockaded. Motorists travelling between Vereeniging and Johannesburg should use alternative routes."
