PHOTOS: Scores injured in bus accident
Between 40-50 were injured when a bus overturned on the N8 highway near Bloemfontein on Monday evening, ER24 reported.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the accident occurred about 30 kilometres outside of Bloemfontein.
ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, responded to the scene, and on arrival, found the large bus lying on its side on an embankment Meiring said.
“Occupants from the bus were found seated all across the scene,” Meiring said. “Paramedics and rescue workers immediately set up a triage area to effectively treat all the patients.
“On assessment, paramedics found that between 40 to 50 people had been injured in this incident. Fortunately no fatalities were found on the scene.”
Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
Meiring said extra medical resources had been called to the scene to assist in the treatment and transportation of the large number of patients.
The cause the incident was not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
