Sars extends weekend hours for last minute tax returns
Updated | By ANA
Taxpayers panicking about the looming tax return deadline can breathe a sigh of relief, this after the South African Revenue Services announced on Wednesday it would extend its hours for the next two weekends.
“The [South African Revenue Services] SARS branch offices will extend working days to Saturdays for the next two weekends – 14 and 21 November – in anticipation of an increase in number of taxpayers who will file their returns,” said SARS spokesperson Sandile Memela on Wednesday.
Ahead of the November 27 tax season deadline, SARS offices on the two specified dates would be open from 8am until 1pm, across 25 branches nationwide.
“The purpose is to assist taxpayers with their returns. Taxpayers are to note that only issues relating to tax return submissions will be dealt with,” said Memela, urging taxpayers to submit their returns as soon as possible.
Those planning to make use of extended weekend hours were encouraged to visit the SARS website for branch details while anyone seeking clarity could call the SARS contact centre on 0800 00 7277.
