Teacher investigated for alleged assault

A 55-year-old teacher who allegedly assault a nine-year-old boy in Moruleng near Mogwase will be investigated, the North West education department said on Wednesday.

“The department will conduct an investigation and should the teacher be found guilty of an offence, the department will institute disciplinary proceedings in accordance with its disciplinary procedures,” said spokesman Elias Malindi.
“It is alleged that the teacher squeezed a pen in learner’s hand which fractured the learner’s hand and who is now recuperating in hospital.”
The incident occurred on January 28 at Mmamitlwa Primary School.
The teacher appeared in court on Monday and was released on R500 bail. The case was postponed to February 23 for investigation. He faces a charge of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm.
