Two teenagers injured in Witbank boating accident
Updated | By ANA
Two teenagers are in a stable but serious condition in hospital after a boating accident on Witbank Dam in Mpumalanga, the NSRI said on Sunday.
NSRI Witbank duty crew were activated at about 1.30pm following reports of a boat tyre tube accident at the gorge on the dam, spokesman Craig Lambinon said.
The Wavescapes rescue craft was launched and on arrival on the scene the crew found Langa ambulance services paramedics attending to two local 17-year-old boys, one with a suspected fractured pelvis and one with a broken leg. An 18-year-old girl was treated for shock, he said.
The two boys were transported to hospital in stable but serious conditions and the girl was transported to hospital in a stable condition.
It appeared that the two teenage boys were on a floating tractor tyre tube being towed by a skiboat when the tube was believed to have hit rocks, “reportedly causing them to be flung off the tyre tube and sustaining injuries”.
It was believed that the girl assisted them in the water before paramedics arrived, Lambinon said.
