Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Mine Rescue Workers are on route to the Lily Mine between Barberton and Kaapmuiden in Mpumalanga.
There was a structural as miners were descending into the gold mine for the morning shift.
Emergency services say about 5 mine workers were still unaccounted for.
Clive Sibanda from Mpumalanga EMS says a massive operation was underway, while families and residents waited outside the mine.
"So far the number has risen to 76 [of those who have] walked out. Some of them has been transported to hospital for treatment. There is a search and rescue team that arrived from Gauteng to assist the local search and rescue team to see if they can trace and find the four or 5 who are unaccounted for," he said.
Inspectors from the Department of Minerals and Resources, as well as the local MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, were on the scene.
Lily Mine operations director, Mike Beck, described what happened during the collapse incident.
