Voting process delayed at Johannesburg council meeting

The EFF on Monday rejected the IEC's ruling that voting for the Speaker in the Johannesburg metro must remain a secret.

The fighters said they will show who they voted for regardless of what the IEC said after a complaint was raised on how councillors are voting for the Speaker.
Party agents voiced their concern, saying some councillors were showing who they voted for.
City manager Trevor Fowler consulted with the IEC which said all parties agreed to a secret ballot and the verdict was that all those who vote should do so in secret.
"Their view is that the ballot - when cast - must be kept secret and that is their ruling. Given that ruling we will then ask that people will desist from it. If there are further complaints, we can run it again and we will continue to run it until you get tired," Fowler said.
ANC Councillors Constance Bapela and DA Councillor Vasco Da Gama were nominated for Speaker.
