Billie Eilish clarifies ‘Wasteful Vinyl Variants' comment
Updated | By Poelano Malema
Billie Eilish recently spoke about the industry-wide issue of artists releasing numerous album variants to drive sales, calling it a waste.
Billie Eilish has set the record straight after she was slammed for saying artists who release numerous album variants to drive sales are engaged in a wasteful practice.
The singer says she wasn't targeting anyone with her comment.
“Okay so it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what i said in that billboard article,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I wasn’t singling anyone out,” she wrote.
“These are industry-wide systemic issues & when it comes to variants, so many artists release them – including ME! which I clearly state in the article,” she added.

The comments come after a social media user said Billie was referring to Taylor Swift with her statements. The 'Shake It Off' hitmaker's upcoming album, 'The Tortured Poets Department', has four different deluxe editions available for purchase.
Other artists who have numerous album variants include Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Olivia Rodrigo.
In an interview published last week Thursday, the singer told Billboard: “We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it’s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging … which ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money. I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is."
She slammed big artists who are guilty of this.
“It’s some of the biggest artists in the world making f–king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more.
“It’s so wasteful, and it’s irritating to me that we’re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money — and it’s all your favourite artists doing that sh-t,” she added.
