Enjoy the Netflix you know, while you still can

Netflix has warned of more financial shocks to come over the
next three months – with its management now looking at adding adverts, cutting
content and axing the number of devices allowed under one subscription.
The global streaming industry has been rocked by the massive speedbump that Netflix hit this week.
The streaming giant shocked the business world and dragged down US shares when it released its latest quarterly figures that show a drop in subscribers for the first time in more than a decade.
Gerda de Sousa spoke to independent TV critic, Thinus Ferreira, about the latest developments at Netflix, what it could look like in the future and what we can still watch in the meantime. Listen to the latest episode of Streaming Now! …..
Netflix sees red – not the well-known red of the logo that’s become synonymous with streaming across the world – but rather, alarm bells red.
It’s shares plunged by more than 30% on Wednesday, when the loss of subscribers over the first three months of the year emerged and the company warned it’s expected to lose some 2 million more subscribers over the next three months. Other streaming platforms now wait to see whether this is a signal that they too will be facing difficult financial times ahead.
While Netflix battle it out, the service continues and this week it brings a brand new documentary, “White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch”. It tells the true story of how the company that started selling must-have clothes came crashing down after it emerged that “beautiful” and white people were at the top of the list of people who would be hired to work in the stores.
On to a drama that’s also not what it seems to be. “The Cleaning Lady” tells the story of a desperate mother cleaning crime scenes to afford her son’s medical bills. But these are not the crime scenes one would think and this mother starts playing the game alongside the powerful mob.
If you have missed last week's episode and is searching for more to watch, listen to my chat about “Anatomy of a Scandal”, that has all the hallmarks of a gripping series that will leave you at the edge of your seat till the very end.
