Former Miss World Rolene Strauss is sharing her top tips for better gut health.

The qualified medical doctor opened up about her gut health in a candid post shared on her Instagram page.

"Instagram vs reality… My gut is shouting for my attention after our trip to America. The first signs I usually notice? Bloating and skin breakouts," she wrote

Strauss recently travelled to the US to visit her friend and fellow South African pageant queen, Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Tebow

"Our guts have an interesting way of telling us it needs some extra love," Strauss added.

She shared several signs she experiences when her gut health needs attention. These include persistent bloating, digestive discomfort, brain fog, skin flare-ups and low energy.

Strauss also shared her "gut-healing daily menu", which she said focuses on fibre, whole foods, and nourishing her microbiome.

  • Morning Routine – Warm water with lemon

  • Breakfast – Berry & Chia Protein Smoothie

  • Lunch – Chicken & Quinoa Power Bowl

  • Dinner – Salmon with Lentils, Roasted Veggies & Broccoli

  • Dessert – Greek Yogurt Bowl with Kiwi, Flax, Smul Granola & Almonds

  • Wind-Down – Herbal tea to soothe digestion

According to Healthline, probiotics, fermented foods, hydration, and stress management can also help improve gut health.

"You can improve your gut health by taking steps to improve your overall health. This can include eating more fibre-rich foods, eating fewer ultra-processed foods, getting enough sleep, and managing your stress levels."
