Johnny Depp's hillbilly rage
Updated | By MorneJK
Johnny Depp drew on his "old hillbilly rage" for his menacing character in 'Black Mass'.
The Kentucky-born actor admits he often has a feeling of anger "not far from the surface" and drew on the emotions when portraying menacing killer Jimmy 'Whitey' Bulger in his new movie 'Black Mass'.
He said: "[I have an] old hillbilly rage that's not necessarily that far from the surface at times. To the degree that you can control it, have access to it in a split second, that's what Jimmy Bulger had. I knew that's what the role required."
The 51-year-old actor - who donned prosthetics, blue contact lenses, a grey tooth and a thinning hairpiece for the role - left director Scott Cooper's nine-year-old daughter Stella baffled by his appearance as she recognised his voice as Captain Jack Sparrow from the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies.
Scott recalled in a joint interview with Johnny for GQ magazine: "I looked down, and she's looking up at Johnny like she was thinking to herself, 'Hold on. That's Jack Sparrow. But he doesn't look like it.'
"And I thought, 'What a great way to f**k your kids up.' "
Johnny added: "I remember I had to do the voice for her so that she recognised me."
