Lynelle Kenned: Remember this name
Updated | By Laila Majiet
If you do anything this month, do this.
Make a date to go and the see the phenomenal 'Calling Me Home' musical at the Joburg Theatre.
This musical is unlike any other I've seen before. It's original, moving and powerful.
The cast, stage production as well as the original score is bound to move you - maybe even to tears.
The lead of the magical African musical, Lynelle Kenned, is a name that you're not going to want to forget. She plays Grace in this theatre production.
Hair-raising, goosebump inducing and phenomenal - is the only way to describe her performance.
Freshlyground's Zolani Mahola also makes her theatrical debut in this production. Her character flees an abusive relationship.
'Calling Me Home' is a moving story of love, hope, courage as well as a longing for home that will resonate with any audience.
It takes Grace from Africa to the concrete jungle of America amid a war back home.
Premiering in Women's Month, the new and original musical 'Calling Me Home' is a collaboration between two highly creative and powerful women in the South African music and theatre industry - director Magdalene Minnaar and composer Alice Gillham.
Kenned, who you might have seen on your TV screen in the new series 'Jy Geld' on kykNET, is supported by a remarkable cast who help bring colour and life to this story.
Another favourite in the production, is Grace's brother, Musanete Sakupwanya (Nelson). He's a well-known jazz singer from Zimbabwe, currently living in South Africa.
