Madonna laments Donald Trump's election win

"I am so angry, I feel as if I drank poison and am waiting for the other guys to die. This is who we are. This is America. Don’t say it’s not."

Madonna has taken to social media to express her disappointment after Donald Trump won this year's US election.

Using her newly launched Substack, an American online platform that allows writers to publish newsletters to a subscribed audience, Madonna expressed her anger after millions of Americans voted in support of Trump.

"I am so angry, I feel as if I drank poison and am waiting for the other guys to die. This is who we are. This is America. Don’t say it’s not," she wrote.

"We have done this now not twice, but millions of times in millions of ways. We have done it at the border. We have done it in for-profit prisons and for nothing executions. We have done it in forever wars and proxy wars and culture wars. We have sold our schools and public hospitals off for parts and left human beings in the wreckage.

"And We The People have chosen as a country to buy what that vile man is selling, the real American dream: white supremacy. And he will sell it to you whether you can redeem or not. And he has sold it to you, though in the end, it will redeem no one and nothing. And so tonight, what I lack in optimism, is replaced with rage, which itself I believe can be a kind of love."

Over the weekend, the singer wrote a long post on Instagram saying how Trump's win will have devastating consequences for women.

"I woke up this morning and the first thought that came to my head was-America hates Women! - Not that I haven’t always felt the wrath of misogyny breathing down my neck," she wrote on Instagram.

"But it’s not just women that America hates. They straight up hate Freedom. They want lower taxes, but they don’t mind if they live in a Totalitarian government to get them. I don’t want to let go of our democracy!! Now we will all have to fight even harder to hang onto it."

Madonna said Trump's win shows that Americans don't mind dictatorship.

"Americans who voted for Trump or didn’t vote at all- showed that many people are OK with a dictatorship to take over . I don’t want my friends that are not naturally born Americans to live in internment camps.!! I want my daughters and all of their friends to have agency over their bodies!! . To feel valued. Not like second-class.citizens. How could women vote for Trump? We fought for so long for so much!" she wrote.

"What are we going to do with our feelings of disappointment? The universe is telling us that we have to spend the next four years fighting for our freedom !!! Are you prepared to fight?

"Critical thinking and getting involved in our community is needed. Be prepared to fight for your freedom. Be prepared to fight for your life ! I’m not giving up hope. Are you with Me? 💙.".
