Updated | By Morne JK
A fake news report emanating from the UK is causing a social media stir ahead of the next month's Miss South Africa finale.
According to a website the current Miss SA Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was arrested at London's Heathrow Airport after being found in possession of two bags of cocaine.
Sun International's Claudia Henkel says there is no truth the report, and it was clearly written with malicious intent.
The story stated that Kunene, from Mkhondo in Mpumalanga, was found in possession of 2 kgs of the drug that she tried to smuggle into London in coffee bags.
"The report that has been circulated is absolutely fake news," Henkel confirms.
According to the Miss SA office Kunene is safely at home in South Africa.
Henkel says: "She is in Johannesburg, relaxing at her apartment."
Fake news reports have been in the news recently with media houses urging consumers on especially social media to check and double check their sources before sharing such reports.
"Such reports are not concerning, because we know it is not true," Henkel says.
The Miss SA has been a reputable brand since 1956 and tries to portray a positive image to young girls.
"The viewers and Miss SA supporters know Ntando and know that she's had a very successful year and is completely against things like that."
