Nicki Minaj is "excited" to star in and executive producer a new scripted comedy about her early life and rise to stardom.

The 32-year-old rapper, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to the U.S. as a child, says she "couldn't be more proud" after signing a deal to executive produce and appear in a new ABC Family series about growing up with her vibrant immigrant family in Queens, New York and her eventual rise to stardom.
The 'Anaconda' hitmaker, who studied acting at LaGuardia High School in New York City before opting to launch her successful career in the music industry, said: "This is one of the more unique adventures I've ever embarked on. I couldn't be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special."
A pilot episode for the currently untitled show will be filmed in her hometown later this year.
ABC Family's EVP of Programming and Development Karey Burke also told Deadline.com: "Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can't wait to share it with the world."
