Pearl Thusi not swapping SA for the US anytime soon
Updated | By MornéJK
South African actress Pearl Thusi has spoken of her excitement at being part of an international television series.
Thusi is in South Africa to promote the second season of the US series, Quantico.
Thusi was nominated for Favourite African Star at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards but lost out to SA comedian, Trevor Noah, on Monday.
"Thank God he won it, right? Trevor and I, together with many African stars like Lupita Nyong'o and Wade van Niekerk were nominated, and I guess he is bringing it home - even though it will probably stay in New York," Thusi says.
She adds that Trevor Noah is a huge inspiration for Africans, herself included, and that she is trying to conquer the world from an African perspective.
"International recognition is very exciting because it shows that your work is on par with the likes of Meryl Streep and the like," Thusi says.
Working on Quantico:
Pearl Thusi has become a fan favourite on the US series Quantico, in which she plays a Zimbabwean special agent, Dayana Mampasi. She says it is bitter-sweet that season two is coming to an end.
Season two wraps up in Aril.
"It is always very nerve wrecking when a show is over. It is bitter-sweet because you will be missing the people you work with, but it is also exciting as it opens you up for other opportunities."
She is also determined not to move to America but find a way to promote the African entertainment industry while working abroad.
"I need to remind people that as much as I have loved working in the US, my goal is to find a way to contribute to the African entertainment industry and collaborate with Hollywood and Bollywood," she says.
