Pete Davidson says he is embarrassed to admit that he was high on ketamine at Aretha Franklin’s funeral and ended up making a sick joke to her family.
Pete Davidson has never shied away from openly talking about past struggles, including his struggle with drug abuse.
In his new Netflix comedy special, 'Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli', the comedian spoke about attending Aretha Franklin's funeral while high on ketamine - an anaesthetic used to induce a loss of consciousness and relieve pain.
Pete said he is embarrassed to think about the experience.
“It’s embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore, though,” Davidson said.
“I’m embarrassed. I was out and about like that. That’s not cool, you know?” he added.

The 30-year-old, who was dating Ariana Grande at the time, says he now has to live with the guilt.
“Yeah, I have to live with that,” he said, adding that although “[Aretha] will never know, but still, that’s not the point. You know what I mean?”
He also spoke about the sick joke he made while at the funeral.
“I’m so high, I thought it would be a good idea to go up to her family and go, ‘Hey, I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-Ts,’” he said, referring to Franklin’s classic track, 'Respect', a song that is all about demanding and desiring respect within a relationship.
Franklin's funeral service was held in Detroit, Michigan on 31 August 2018.
'Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli' started airing in the USA on 9 January 2024.
The Netflix special focuses on his childhood memories, including having a crush on Leonardo DiCaprio. He also shares about the disturbing gift he got from a stalker, his relationships, and living in the woods.
