SA director Oliver Hermanus bags two Oscar nominations
A film by South African director Oliver Hermanus has received two Academy Awards nominations.
Hollywood formally kicked off the race to the all-important Academy Awards on Monday.
The film, "Living", directed by the South African-born Hermanus, has been nominated for Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Set in 1953 London, the film depicts a civil servant, played by Bill Nighy, facing a fatal illness and deciding to take time off to experience life.

Hermanus during a recent interview in anticipation of the Oscar nominations said:
“It’s exciting. It’s something that I really hope for, for all of the people involved in Living. It’s not why we do it but it is a very nice thing to have to happen when you make something that people respond to. It is a gift and it’s one we are very willing and able to receive.”
Hermanus also directed “Moffie”, ‘The Endless Rivier” and “Shirley Adams” amongst others.
Surreal sci-fi flick "Everything Everywhere All At Once" topped the Oscar nominations Tuesday with 11, as the countdown began to the pinnacle of the awards session.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will hand out the awards on March 12.
