Selena Gomez has revealed that she planned to have children in the next few years regardless of whether she had a partner.

The 31-year-old, who is currently dating music producer Benny Blanco, made the remarks while speaking to TIME magazine.

She was reacting to a statement Benny made about wanting to get married and have children with Selena.

"I want to have kids. That's the next goal, to check the box. I have a ton of godkids, I've got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids," he admitted on 'The Howard Stern Show' earlier this year.

Selena is not surprised that Benny answered Howard's questions so honestly.

"He can’t lie to save his life. If he’s asked a question, he’ll answer it," she said.

The 'Love You Like A Love Song' star says she was okay with being single until Benny came along and swooped her off her feet.

"I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it. Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone," she told TIME.

Selena and Benny have known each other for years, but only recently developed a romantic relationship.

Benny even tried to play matchmaker for Selena and another friend, but she soon realised that he was the perfect match for her.

“It just happens when you least expect it," she told TIME

Selena and Benny Blanco first met professionally when she 18 and working on her music career

"Neither one of us remembered the meeting but her mom remembered it and was just like, ‘Yeah, you guys were 18.'” he told SiriusXM Hits 1 in an interview.

They continue to make sweet music together. In 2019, Selena appeared on Benny's hit song, 'I Can't Get Enough', along with J Balvin and Tainy.
