Over the years, Selena Gomez has been scrutinised for her looks.

In 2023, content creator Marissa Barrionuevo shared a post displaying side-by-side photos of Selena's face. Some of the photos were taken a few years ago and another one was showing her look at the 2023 Golden Globes.

Page Six reports that in the now-deleted clip, 'content creator Marissa Barrionuevo was asked to share what work Gomez has gotten done over the years'.

Barrionuevo, a physician assistant in a plastic surgery office, reportedly declined to get into a debate about Selena's looks, adding that the singer has lupus which often alters a person’s appearance and shouldn’t be mistaken for cosmetic work. Selena was diagnosed with Lupus in 2014 and she has also had a kidney transplant and chemotherapy, reports Page Six.

"I think she's been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don't think it's fair to speculate whether or not she's gotten cosmetic things done," Barrionuevo said. "At the end of the day, let's just leave her be," she added.

Over the weekend, Selena commented on the post, saying she hates it when people scrutinise her looks.

"Honestly. I hate this," she commented.

The 'Calm Down' singer told her critics to leave her alone, adding that she had Botox.

“I was on stripes because of flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Following her comment, the 32-year-old received an apology from Barrionuevo.

Barrionuevo pinned Gomez’s comment to the top of a new video and wrote: “I adore you. I really do mean the best, so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever.”

She also wrote: “Although I always try to lead with grace and mindfulness, I am sorry this upset you (and I understand why it did). I decided to stop making videos like this last year because of the negative impact it can cause. It was never my intention.”

Selena accepted the apology. She commented: “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes."
