'Selfish' Kardashians slammed amid LA wildfires
Updated | By Entertainment Reporter
Khloé Kardashian has come under fire for slamming the mayor's response to the LA fires despite her family allegedly exceeding water restrictions in 2022 by over one million litres.
The Kardashian family is facing the wrath of social media users after engaging in online behaviour that many deemed "selfish" and "greedy" during the Los Angeles, California, wildfires.
The death toll from the fires has risen to 24. The blaze has also caused catastrophic damage, with AccuWeather estimating a "preliminary estimate of the total damage and economic loss to between $135 billion and $150 billion".
Several celebrities are among those who have lost their homes since the wildfires began on January 7. Like many families, the Kardashian-Jenner family were reportedly forced to flee their Calabasas and Hidden Hills mansions last week as the fires continued to rage with one threatening the area.
Some family members caused outrage online after sharing some interesting social media posts. Khloé Kardashian was slammed for criticising California Mayor Karen Bass.
The Good American co-founder was not impressed with the mayor's response to the wildfires. "Mayor Bass, you are a joke!!!!!" she captioned a screenshot of the LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley discussing the disaster.
The fire chief accused Mayor Bass of ordering budget cuts, which allegedly hindered their firefighting efforts. According to several reports, she also blamed the city for running out of water.
"Thank you for being honest Chief Crowley," Khloé wrote.
However, many social media users called Khloé a "hypocrite", with many reminding her that some of her family members made headlines in 2022 for allegedly consuming shocking amounts of water despite California drought restrictions.
The Los Angeles Times reported in August 2022 that Kim Kardashian exceeded her June water limit by a whopping 232,000 gallons (878,215 litres), while big sister Kourtney allegedly exceeded her limit by 101,000 gallons (382,326 litres).
"Instead of Khloé Kardashian talking bulls*** about Mayor Karen Bass, people should be talking about how she and her sister used an excess of over 300,000 gallons of water in just one month during a drought. How about the water waster just STFU," an X user commented.
Another user wrote, "It's ironic to criticize leadership on fire management when your own family is contributing to resource strain during a drought. Instead of pointing fingers, maybe focus on setting a better example by addressing your excessive water usage."

Kim also came under fire after sharing "tone-deaf" Instagram Stories promoting her Skims brand while the fires ravaged large parts of the city.
"THE WINTER SALE STARTS TOMORROW,” she wrote in one post. Furious internet users slammed Kim and her billion-dollar company.
One wrote, "Imagine still promoting a sale when LA is burning and people are losing their homes."
Scores of people also expressed their anger in the comments section of Kim's Instagram pictures. "In 2022 this person used 232,000 gallons of water ABOVE THE LIMIT IN ONLY ONE MONTH, now she is asking for donations..."
Another person commented: "Didn’t you use 9 years of water in 1 year and got fined for it? You’re the problem."
A third wrote, "Not Kim promoting herself during the L.A devastating fires."
Social media users called the family selfish and greedy.
Kim redeemed herself by showing support to incarcerated firefighters battling the fires. The aspiring lawyer says incarcerated firefighters receive $1 an hour for their efforts.
"On all 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters, risking their lives to save us. They are on the Palisades fire and Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts. They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes," she wrote on Instagram Stories.
