The controversy between Somizi Mhlongo and Mohale Motaung continues...
In a new turn of events, Somizi has revealed that he has had to withdraw his divorce case against Mohale after it was found that their marriage was not valid.
In a statement released by Somizi on his Instagram page, the media personality started by explaining that the two parties had a mutual understanding that they had a customary marriage and were married In Community of Property.
"Both Mohale and I were initially in agreement that we entered into a valid customary marriage. It is indeed Mohale, who in the first correspondence between us stated that a valid customary marriage was entered into and that we were married in community of property. I issued a summons for divorce, as this is the only manner in which a marriage can be legally dissolved in accordance with South African law. We initially agreed to enter into settlement negotiations in an attempt to end the marriage amicably. I never wanted the matter to become protracted and acrimonious," reads a statement by Somizi.
However, he states that Mohale later disputed the fact that they were ever married. This led to Somizi withdrawing the divorce case.
"The decision to withdraw the divorce action comes after we were unable to reach an agreement regarding the existence of the marriage. We had initially agreed that a marriage existed, but Mohale later claimed that no valid marriage had taken place," read the statement.
Somizi says he is the one who covered the legal costs.
"Although I received legal advice suggesting that Mohale's disavowal of our marriage may have warranted an exception to the usual rule of the withdrawal party paying legal costs, I opted to cover the costs. This decision was influenced by the fact that the case was still early stages and the legal costs were relatively small, which made pursuing the matter seem unproductive," read the statement.

Somizi proposed to Mohale at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France in 2018.
The two later had their traditional wedding in September 2019 followed by their lavish white wedding in January 2020. The wedding was even aired on Showmax.
Their marriage only lasted a year. They confirmed they were calling it quits in 2021.
Mohale accused Somizi of abuse, claiming that he threatened him with a knife and broke his ribs during violent altercations that were fuelled by jealousy. He added that Somizi also wanted them to have a threesome.
Somizi denied ever abusing Mohale but said the threesome suggestion was done to remedy their bad sex life.
"There's a part where he says I suggested threesomes... My suggestion of not an open relationship, a versatile relationship, was for the benefit of our marriage... because here I was dealing with someone who had issues with sex... I tried to find so many ways of making it work... the sex life was bad," the 49-year-old said.
"The assault allegations are something that the court should deal with. I don't take them likely... That I will deal with it legally."
