Updated | By MornéJK
Tom Cruise has confirmed that a sequel to the 1980's blockbuster Top Gun will be filmed in the coming year.

Speaking during an interview on Australia's Sunrise, Cruise confirmed that he has met with Jerry Bruckheimer to discuss a plot. He wasn't willing to say much more though.
Top Gun has gained a cult following since its release in 1986 and turned Cruise into a bone fide Hollywood star.
Cruise played the role Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young Naval aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He and his Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Edwards) are given the chance to train at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School at Miramar in San Diego.

The movie was released in 1986 and received generally mixed reviews from film critics but many particularly praised the action sequences, the effects, the aerial stunts, and the performances of Cruise and McGillis.
Despite its mixed critical reaction, the film was a huge commercial hit, grossing $356 million against production budget of only $15 million.
