She went on to ask people to honour the legacy that her grandfather left behind.
“I acknowledge the pain and hurt members of our community experienced during the turbulent years of the 80s - a period marked by violence and tragedy.
"My hope is that we can reflect on his legacy with a sense of nuance and understanding, acknowledging both the positive and challenging aspects of his life's work," she said.
Toya says the late politician taught her to be selfless.
“My grandfather taught me selflessness and how to think about others before myself and to always stand for the truth – even if it makes you unpopular," she said.
Below is the touching tribute:
Prince Buthelezi was the founder of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
He died on 9 September aged 95.
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed sadness at the veteran's passing.
"Buthelezi has been an outstanding leader in the political and cultural life of our nation, including the ebbs and flows of our liberation struggle," Ramaphosa said, announcing the Zulu nationalist's death last Saturday.
