'The Voice SA' winner Craig Lucas comes out as gay

After battling with his sexuality and depression for the last few years, Craig Lucas has come out in a heart-warming open letter.
In an emotional letter penned to family, friends and fans, The Voice SA season 2 winner, Craig Lucas has come out as a gay man.
The lengthy and honest letter, that Lucas shared to social media, is an honest take on Lucas' struggle with depression and his sexuality over the last few years. The Hearts Exposed-singer opens up about the history of mental illness in his family, even sharing that he lost his father to suicide at the age of three.

Lucas further mentions that he already opened up about his sexuality to family and friends in 2016: "Then came The Voice. People started telling me to keep the fact that I was in a relationship with a man a secret,” he wrote, adding that he was told that no one would vote for him if he were out.

After posting the letter, Lucas was flooded with thousands of messages of support and praised for coming out on social media. His coming out has also started a conversation around the stigmas attached to mental health in the LGBTQI+ community.
