The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has announced that 23 of its members will be participating in the 2022 Comrades marathon.
KwaZulu-Natal province will be welcoming 14 000 runners from 72 countries who will be participating in the marathon after the two years Covid-19 break.
The 95th marathon will be run on Sunday starting at the Pietermaritzburg City and finishing at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The winners of both men and women’s race will receive R260 000 each this year, going down to R12 000 for the person who comes in tenth.
TMPD spokesperson, Rebone Molapo says 23 members will be participating in the marathon, while the other team of 18 members will be supporting and cheering them.
"The team started participating in the Comrades Marathon in 2016. In terms of achievement, we have members who were able to complete the marathon in under 9 hours and some in under 12 hours,” says Molapo.
“The TMPD would like to wish them well. May they make the TMPD as well as their families and the entire City of Tshwane proud."
