AfriForum to start own electricity generation company

AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel says formal engagements have started with C5 Capital to invest in nuclear energy.
The lobby group says it is fed up with the decay of the state of the energy crisis in the country.
Kriel says they are in the process of starting a company with André Pienaar, founder and CEO of C5 Capital, to build a venture capital firm that invests in cybersecurity, space and nuclear energy.
"We are in the process of discussions to form such a company. The reason for it is quite clear, we believe Eskom won't be able in future to adhere to the demands of electricity. We are going to see a further deterioration and it is in the interest of everybody in this country that we are able to provide electricity for economic growth for the creation of jobs. But of course this is not a quick fix, this is a medium to long term project, and we are entering into a number of discussions with people who have the skills and investors, but we will make our plan known in the future."
Kriel adds that the long-term plan is to develop the first pebble-bed reactor in South Africa.
"We believe in long term solutions and we are in discussions with experts and founders to look at a modeler pebble-bed nuclear energy which is now safe and in the long term we believe would be one of the big contributors with a mix of solutions in sun energy and nuclear."
