Airport thieves arrested at Springbok celebrations
Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
Police arrested two suspects at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday at the height of the Springbok victory celebrations.
Thousands of Springbok supporters descended on the airport to welcome back the Rugby World Cup champions.
But in the midst of all the jubilation, criminal activity was also rife.
Provincial police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says a total of fourteen counts of theft were reported.
"Due to the effective operational planning the South African Police Service arrested two criminals yesterday for theft. It is rather unfortunate that criminals exploited this event for their own gains.”
Mathe says police are following up on all leads to further their investigations.
