ANC Gauteng: Members involved in VBS saga should resign
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has resolved that Merafong Mayor Maphefo Mogale-Letsie and MP Boyce Maneli should resign from their areas of deployment.
They are both implicated in the VBS Mutual Bank saga.
Maneli is accused of making R77 million worth of deposits to the defunct bank before its collapse, while Mogale-Letsie is alleged to have been complicit in a deposit of more than R50 million to VBS by the municipality’s former budget and treasury manager and CFO Thys Wienekus.
The ANC’s provincial secretary Jacob Khawe announced the resolutions following a virtual meeting of the PEC on Tuesday.
"The two comrades have appealed to the NEC to have the PEC decision set aside and there is a formal communication from the NEC confirming that the matter is now with them.
“This means that until the matter has been concluded at national level, the PEC decision will be suspended pending the outcome of the appeal process," said Khawe.
