Autopax workers paid January wages

Workers at cash-strapped Autopax were paid the remainder of their January salaries on Thursday.
The company, which operates City to City and Translux buses, told workers last week that it would only be able to pay half of workers’ salaries due to financial difficulties.

South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) spokesperson Zanele Sabela says the balance of payment was meant to happen on Wednesday.
“So, yesterday in the morning when they woke up and their money wasn’t in, we enquired and we were told that they were busy processing the payment.
“We expected some of them to receive their money by yesterday, but we are relieved that they have been all paid today.”
Sabela adds that Autopax has repeatedly vowed to deal with their dire financial state, but to no avail.
“They have said time and time again in the media that they and the administrator of Prasa and the ministry of transport are working on a plan to turn Autopax around.”
