BEE here to stay, vows Ramaphosa
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
President Cyril Ramaphosa has told Members of Parliament that Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is not going anywhere.
Ramaphosa made the comments during a question and answer session in the National Assembly.
The hybrid sitting was the first time Ramaphosa appeared in the National Assembly since the declaration of a national disaster to combat the Covid-19 outbreak.
The coronavirus pandemic and its effect on the economy took centre stage during the sitting.
Ramaphosa was asked by Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald if getting rid of BEE could be another way of “structural reforming” the economy post-Covid.

“Black Economic Empowerment, the Broad-Based Economic Empowerment, if anything, needs to be enhanced,” Ramaphosa said.
“So BEE is here to stay, we must bring black people into the economy of our own country.
“We need to ensure that black people who were forever under apartheid rule and colonial rule excluded from playing an important role in the economy of their country are given their rightful place and important role in their own country,” he added
