Bodies of 2 municipal officials recovered from Umdloti River
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The bodies of the two municipal officials who disappeared during heavy rains this past weekend have been found.
Their vehicle was spotted floating in the Umdloti River in Ogunjini, north of Durban, on Monday.
Divers went into the water but found no one inside the vehicle.
At some point, the search operation had to be halted due to a strong water current.
eThekwini Municipality's Msawakhe Mayisela says rescue teams found the bodies quite some distance from where the car was retrieved.
"Our mayor has sent his heartfelt condolences to the families. He has also sent his deepest condolences to a family of one of our employees who was gunned down in Folweni earlier in the week.
"He has vowed that our city will continue to be behind all the families who are currently in bereavement."
