Brackenfell High reschedules exams amid EFF protest
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
Brackenfell High School in Cape Town has decided to reschedule is scheduled exams ahead of a planned protest by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
The exams were supposed to be written on Friday.
EFF supporters are planning an anti-racism protest at the school on Friday morning.
Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer says the exams will be rescheduled.
“The protest has been approved to start from 12:00, but the school has still decided that grades 8 to 11 will not write their scheduled exams on that day. School will proceed as normal and the matrics will still write, but arrangements have been made to ensure the exams are not disrupted.”
The EFF has been given the green light by the City of Cape Town, but need to remain 100 meter from the school.
“Obviously, the ongoing protest is difficult and from the safety point of view. We are working together with the law enforcement authorities, but this is adding huge stress to the learners already,” Schäfer says.
“They are already stressed as the result of the very difficult year that all of us has had. Particularly for our matrics, who are trying to write exams in the midst of this chaos.”
