Mkhize passed away last week at the age of 69 after suffering from cancer since 2017.

Friends and colleagues of the late Deputy Minister in the Presidency Hlengiwe Mkhize has described her as a fearless, brave anti-apartheid activist.
Mkhize passed away last week at the age of 69 after suffering from cancer since 2017.
ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile said Mkhize was a humble and dependable servant.
“She was a person of principle, a scholar, critical thinker, an intellectual of note as well as a sharp and eloquent contributor in shaping the policies of our movement and our government. She worked tirelessly championing the interest of our most vulnerable in our society.”
Thabisile Msezane, from the Progressive Women Movement of SA, said Mkhize suffered her pain in silence.
“Even at the most difficult time of her healthy she stood straight, because no one new that Hlengiwe was sick, there was never a time we didn’t see her because of illness, but she was going through pain silently but taking care of her responsibilities in government, in the community and at home.”
President Ramaphosa has honoured Mkhize with an official funeral category 2.
She will be laid to rest at the Fourways Memorial cemetery on Saturday.
