Radebe says they are as concerned as everyone else over the uncertainty of social grants payments on 1 April.

He briefed journalists on yesterday's cabinet meeting, while SASSA has still not given any indication as to how it intends to pay social grants. The department's contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) expires at the end of March.

"As a government, we are deeply and totally committed in ensuring that come 1 April, 17 million beneficiaries must be given their social grants," says Radebe.

Radebe says next week's meeting will shed more light on the matter.

"We will get comprehensive reports from all the teams, not only the Department of Social Developments, but National Treasury and so on. All the affected parties into this matter will be able to give a report. It will be after that meeting that we will be able to indicate what the position of government is," says Radebe.
