Contractors in Gauteng Covid-19 corruption get last chance to fight freezing of bank accounts
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The large group of 40 Gauteng based contractors implicated in Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) corruption in the province, will get the opportunity today to argue why an interim order which froze R38.7 million in several bank accounts should not be made final.
The Special Tribunal of South Africa will sit on Tuesday morning at the South Gauteng Local Division of the High Court in Johannesburg, where arguments between the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the contractors will be heard.
“In the interim order, the Special Tribunal interdicted the Gauteng Department of Health from making further payments to Ledla Structural Development (Pty) Ltd and 39 other respondents,” says Tribunal spokesperson Selby Makgatho.

“The same order also interdicted the Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF) from releasing the pension money and benefits to the former Departmental Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Mantsu Kabelo Lehloenya, pending the institution of civil proceedings before the Special Tribunal.”
Proceedings are expected to start at 10am.
