Delays in Zuma trial will be on NPA’s shoulders, says JZ Foundation

The Jacob Zuma Foundation says the National Prosecuting Authority must shoulder the blame for any further delays in the corruption case against the former president.
The NPA issued Zuma with a certificate on Tuesday, allowing him to pursue the private prosecuting of state prosecutor Billy Downer.
The former president, who is facing a host of charges related to government’s arms deal in the 1990s, wants the state to remove Downer from the case.
He believes Downer leaked his medical records to the media.
The foundation’s spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi says the NPA had since April to issue the certificate and ensure there are no delays.
"The NPA had since April to issue this certificate, since the 5th of April when they took the decision. Why did they take two months to issue one sentence?
“This may have an impact on the date of the trial, but if that happens it will be blamed on the NPA. The NPA can still save the date by just removing Downer, so that there are no obstacles towards the 15th of August.”
The case is expected to resume on August 15 in the High Court in Pietermaritzburg.
