Dineo downgraded to tropical storm
Updated | By MornéJK
Cyclone Dineo that struck the Inhambane area of Mozambique overnight has been downgraded to a tropical storm.
According to the South African Weather Service Dineo lost momentum as it moved over the interior of Mozambique, but still left destruction in its wake.
"The moment a cyclone makes landfall it loses momentum because the ocean acts as it's source of energy, and thus we are now calling it an ex-cyclone or tropical storm," forecaster Dipuo Tawana says.
According to the Weather Service heavy rain with strong winds are expected to hit parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga later this afternoon as a result of the severe tropical storm.

"The tropical storm, Dineo is moving in an easterly direction and will affect the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo from late this afternoon," Tawana says.
They have also issued a warning of possible flooding in the area until Saturday.
